SOUTH PASADENA — An early morning fire Saturday damaged the kitchen area of the Horse & Jockey British Pub, temporarily shuttering the business.

The blaze broke out just after 3 a.m., fire officials said. Firefighters responded at 3:15 and upon arrival they found heavy smoke coming from the restaurant's kitchen.

It took about a half-hour for firefighters to bring the fire under control, officials said. No one was injured in the blaze.

Damage from flames and smoke was confined to the kitchen area, but the fire did not affect the restaurant's main dining and bar areas, said South Pasadena Fire Chief Dayton Saltsman. The restaurant, which opened in 1987, should be able to reopen once repairs are made to the building's utilities, he said.

No other businesses in the area were affected. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
