TIERRA VERDE — A fire heavily damaged a waterfront home worth more than half a million dollars Thursday night in Tierra Verde.

The owner of the home at 124 8th St. E, discovered the fire just after 5 p.m. and called 911, fire officials said. Firefighters from the Lealman Fire Control District, which covers Tierra Verde, arrived within minutes and went to work on the blaze.

No one was in the home when the fire started and there were no injuries, officials said. The fire was out by 6 p.m., but several fire and rescue units remained at the scene hours later as an investigation into the cause was underway.

The home is undergoing construction, fire officials said. But it was not immediately known if the construction had anything to do with the cause of the fire.
