Firefighter injured battling Tampa house fire

TAMPA — A firefighter received minor injuries as crews battled a house fire late Saturday, authorities said.

Several people called 911 to report a fire at the one-story home at 2531 W Green St. in West Tampa. Fire crews arrived about 11:45 p.m.

Firefighters quickly contained the blaze. The resident was not at home at the time, Fire Rescue said, but a search found a dog, a guinea pig and four baby chickens. Two of the chickens died, according to Fire Rescue.

A firefighter was injured and taken to St. Joseph's Hospital as a precaution. Fire Rescue did not release how he had been injured.
