Firefighter struck by debris in 'suspicious' Clearwater blaze

CLEARWATER — A "suspicious" fire is under investigation after a blaze broke out Sunday at a duplex, authorities said.

Four people were at home when the fire began about 3 p.m. at 1001 Amble Lane.

Clearwater Fire & Rescue responded to the scene, where one of the occupants suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to Morton Plant Hospital.

Falling debris burned a firefighter who went to a walk-in clinic for treatment.

The structure sustained major damage, with flames going through the roof.

Clearwater police were called to the scene, and an investigation into the cause was underway.
