Firefighters contain New Tampa brush fire

TAMPA — Firefighters contained a 30-acre brush fire Sunday afternoon in the Tampa Palms area of New Tampa.

The fire was reported about 2 p.m. north of the Whitehall neighborhood of Tampa Palms, said Tampa Fire Rescue Capt. Lonnie Benniefield.

Firefighters arrived within five minutes and received assistance from Hillsborough and Pasco County fire rescue crews and the Division of Forestry, Benniefield said.

No homes were ever in immediate danger. The fire was contained at 6 p.m. Firefighters remained to extinguish hot spots, Benniefield said.
