Firefighters put out blaze at Clair-Mel school

CLAIR-MEL — Firefighters extinguished a blaze Wednesday morning at E.L. Bing Elementary School in the Clair-Mel area.

The fire was reported about 11 a.m. as construction was being performed near a refrigeration unit on the roof of the school cafeteria, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

Students were evacuated from the school, at 6409 36th Ave., and later bused to Progress Village Middle School for lunch and then home on their normal routes.

The fire was under control at 11:25 a.m.
