Hillsborough deputy uses extinguisher to save woman's home from fire

TAMPA — Kimberly Reed was a heating a pot of oil in the kitchen of her home south of Temple Terrace when she stepped away to take a phone call, deputies said.

The kitchen caught fire, forcing a deputy who arrived on the scene to evacuate homes nearby, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

As he awaited the arrival of Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews, the deputy, Larson, shut the power off in the house, grabbed a fire extinguisher and put the fire out.

There was smoke and fire damage to the kitchen of the home in the 7500 block of Pitch Pine Circle, near 56th Street and Slight Avenue. No one was injured.
