Firefighters put out blaze at Hillsborough gun range

TAMPA —Add this to the perils of being a firefighter: a blaze inside a gun range, with no visibility.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue put out a fire Monday night that apparently began in the attic of the Florida Firearms Academy, 13317 W Hillsborough Ave.

But before that could happen, responders had to wait for a vent truck to clear thick black smoke from inside the building, which was open for business until the emergency shut things down.

"It's too dangerous for the crews to go in because they can't see anything," Hillsborough County Fire Rescue spokesman Ronnie Rivera said initially.

The fire was contained by 8:30 p.m., and an investigator began searching for the cause. No one was injured, and there were no reports of any ammo exploding in the fire.
