Lemur unharmed in fire at Hernando attraction

BROOKSVILLE — A lemur at a Hernando County roadside attraction escaped injury early Monday when a fire destroyed his cage.

George was in his cage at Boyett's Grove Citrus & Zoo Attraction on Spring Lake Highway when an electric space heater set the bedding in the cage on fire, according to a Hernando County Sheriff's Office report.

A newspaper delivery driver reported flames at the attraction around 4:30 a.m. Firefighters extinguished the fire. Boyett's co-owner Kathy Oleson reported that George was not injured.
