Man set fire to his mobile home on Gunn Highway, authorities say

TAMPA — A man set fire to the mobile home where he lived after deputies arrived there early Wednesday in response to a report of an unstable person, authorities said.

Deputies alerted firefighters to the blaze about 1:40 a.m. Fire crews found heavy smoke and flames coming from the back of the residence at 5237 Gunn Highway.

One firefighter received a minor injury as Hillsborough County Fire Rescue extinguished the blaze in about 30 minutes. Firefighters searched the home twice after they heard three other people might be inside, but found no one.

Relatives later told them the man, who was not identified, lived alone in the mobile home. He was taken by deputies to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, fire rescue officials said.

Stay with for updates.
