Man, six animals escape Palm River house fire

A man suffered minor injuries Saturday morning while rescuing six pets from a house fire in the Palm River area east of Tampa, authorities said.

Hillsborough County firefighters arrived at 2402 S 58th St. about 9:30 a.m. and found flames tearing through the roof of the home. They spent about 20 minutes controlling the fire.

The man, who lives in the home with one other person, escaped and called 911. He suffered minor injuries while getting three dogs and three birds to safety, a Fire-Rescue spokesman said. The animals were not hurt.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
