TAMPA — One man was injured in a New Tampa apartment fire Wednesday afternoon.
The blaze was confined to one unit of the Heritage Pines Apartment complex off Cross Creek Boulevard.
Firefighters helped evacuate residents and put out the fire, which was reported at about 1 p.m. One 45-year-old man was taken to Florida Hospital with a burn on his hand and smoke inhalation, according to Tampa Fire Rescue. No one else was injured.
Investigators say the fire was caused by combustibles that were too close to hot cooking utensils. It was an accident, Fire Rescue said.
Damages are estimated at $30,000. The Red Cross plans to assist two adult residents of the apartment with temporary housing.
