No injuries in fire that destroyed empty Tampa house

TAMPA — A fire early Sunday destroyed an empty house, according to a Tampa Fire Rescue spokesman.

Engines responded around 5:40 a.m. to the 8200 block of N Elmer Street, where a fire started in the home's back bedroom, said Capt. Lonnie Benniefield.

Neighbors told investigators somebody had been moving out of the house, Benniefield said. No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported.

But the fire caused about $30,000 in damage, according to Benniefield's estimate.

Investigators were still looking into the cause of the fire.
