LARGO — Authorities on Monday released the name of a woman who died in an apartment fire early Saturday.
Pernilla K. Connerat, 33, died in the blaze at Canterbury Oaks Apartments, 2306 Canterbury Lane. The fire was reported about 12:30 a.m., said Largo police Lt. Mike Loux.
"The investigation is leading us to believe a candle tipped over and started the fire," Loux said. "She succumbed to either the fire or the smoke."
An investigation is ongoing, Loux said.
Connerat was found in a bedroom of the apartment.
Witnesses said a man was able to escape the fire, but tried to re-enter the apartment several times in an effort to save the woman. The man has not yet been identified.
