TAMPA — A fire caused more than $100,000 in damage to an empty Carrollwood house early Monday, officials said.
Firefighters arrived about 5 a.m. at the 728-square-foot, single-story home at 5112 Carey Road. By then, half of the building already had been consumed by the fire, said Ray Yeakley, a Hillsborough County Fire Rescue spokesman.
The fire caused about $100,000 in damage to the building and destroyed about $3,000 worth of items inside.
Property records show the property was sold to Peggy Harrod in 1986 for $16,000.
Officials were still investigating the cause of the fire, Yeakley said. The building was locked when firefighters arrived, and there were no obvious signs of forced entry.
