One dead in New Port Richey house fire

NEW PORT RICHEY — Wayne Coonan said he first heard screams Wednesday from the water softener deliveryman.

There was smoke coming from the back of 1147 Farmingdale Lane, two doors down from Coonan's side of the cul-de-sac.

The two men ran behind the house to see a bathroom door that opens to the patio ajar. Thick black smoke poured out. Coonan could see flames inside.

The deliveryman called 911. They hooked up a hose and tried to put out the flames. Coonan said the other man went inside the door. Coonan heard him shout, "There's a dead body back here!"

About that time, emergency responders arrived. It was just after noon.

Pasco sheriff's spokesman Eddie Daniels confirmed one death in the fire. The person has been identified as Anandi Anil Nayee, 55. The fire was controlled within 10 minutes of Pasco Fire Rescue workers' arrival, Daniels said.

Forensics investigators worked at the scene through the afternoon while neighbors congregated across the street.

Property records show that the home is owned by Keval and Disha Kotak. Phones registered to those names were not answered when the Times called Wednesday afternoon.
