Sailboat near Gandy Bridge destroyed in fire

ST. PETERSBURG — That was no 100-ft. yacht that caught fire near Gandy Bridge Wednesday night, firefighters said, but a 34-foot sailboat.

The result, however is the same: the boat was badly damaged and is nearly submerged. The bow was sticking out earlier today and the words "Mari Anne 420" can could be seen.

Pinellas County Fire Rescue responded around 11 p.m. The owner is unknown, and authorities are investigating. No one was injured and the cause has not been determined.

Earlier reports said the boat was a 100-ft. yacht, but that turned out to be wrong.
