SEMINOLE — Firefighters worked to extinguish a small brush fire that popped up Thursday night near Bay Pines VA Medical Center.
The fire was discovered just before 8 p.m. at a park near the facility, said Alison Shanabrook, spokeswoman for Seminole Fire Rescue.
Shanabrook said the "pesky" fire wasn't considered an emergency and didn't require evacuations or threaten any homes. But strong winds picked up embers and made the fire hard to chase, she said.
Crews were still on scene at 10 p.m., but Shanabrook said officials did not expect to be there all night.
