CLEARWATER — Several people were displaced from their homes after a fire at On Top of the World condominiums Wednesday evening.

The fire broke out in Unit 66 of 2460 Canadian Way about 6:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived minutes later, they found the resident standing on the front balcony of the third-floor unit.

The occupant was checked out by rescuers, but refused treatment, fire officials reported.

Fire crews had the blaze under control in about 15 minutes. The fire was contained to the one unit, but two units directly below had smoke and water damage.

Fire officials said up to five people were displaced. The Red Cross was summoned to assist those residents.

Fire officials said the cause of the blaze was still under investigation Wednesday night.
