CLEARWATER — Arson investigators were looking into a fire that broke out early Thursday morning at a home in an unincorporated area of Clearwater.

Authorities responded to 2114 Cypress Point Drive N. at about 6:40 a.m., according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. There was a fire in the garage off the house.

Crews treated the owner of the home, Michael Branin, 60, for smoke inhalation at the scene, the sheriff's office said.

A man sitting outside the charred home Thursday morning, who claimed he lived there but did not give his name, said the blaze started on a couch in the garage.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, and deputies are continuing to investigate.

No further information was immediately available.
