St. Petersburg's Tyrone Square Mall briefly evacuated after smoke sighted

ST. PETERSBURG — Tyrone Square Mall was briefly evacuated Thursday afternoon after smoke was reported on the roof, according to St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue.

The call came in at 2:48 p.m. The smoke was reported over the Wet Seal store next to Sears at the mall at 6901 Tyrone Square.

Firefighters believe the smoke was related to air conditioning repairs that were taking place on the roof, according to St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue Lt. Joel Granata.

But firefighters quickly determined there were no flames, he said. The evacuation was ended at 3:13 p.m. and patrons were allowed back into the mall.
