Tampa fire leaves family homeless

TAMPA — An early morning fire Saturday left six people homeless, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

Five adults and a child were inside the home at 7010 N Hale Avenue when the blaze broke out, officials say. One adult was up when the fire occurred and was able to alert others and everyone was able to make it out of the home without injury, Fire Rescue said.

The home did not have smoke detectors, officials said.

The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes, but the home suffered severe fire and smoke damage, officials said. The American Red Cross was called in to assist the residents, who were not identified, with food, shelter and clothing.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
