Tampa firefighters put out oven fire

TAMPA — At about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, four fire engines responded to an apartment fire at North Boulevard Homes, a public housing complex near downtown Tampa.

When firefighters arrived at 1338 W Main St., they found flames coming from an oven inside one of the apartment units, which was unoccupied at the time.

Firefighters unplugged the oven and carried it outside, where they put out the fire.

No one was injured. The fire caused about $3,000 in damage, Tampa Fire Rescue estimates.

The apartment did not have any smoke detectors, Fire Rescue said.

North Boulevard Homes is Tampa Housing Authority's oldest community, with some units dating back to 1941.
