LUTZ — A semitrailer tanker caught fire on the northbound exit ramp of the Suncoast Parkway at State Road 54 on Wednesday. No one was injured.

Officials closed the exit ramp and the westbound lanes of S.R. 54 while firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

The fire started due to a mechanical issue and crews contained it to the cab of the truck, Pasco County fire officials said. The tanker was carrying about 5,000 gallons of pool bleach, none of which leaked. The exit ramp was expected to remain closed for several hours while crews worked to off-load the tank.

The driver escaped the cab after noticing smoke rising from the engine, officials said.
