TAMPA — A former Steinbrenner High School teacher was found dead Wednesday afternoon, after the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received a call that he was armed, suicidal and barricaded inside his home.

Deputies responded to the call at 12:47 p.m. and found Vaclav Duda, 48, locked inside his 15501 Woodfair Place home in the Carrollwood area. Deputies were unable to get Duda to come outside, according to the Sheriff's Office.

A tactical team arrived by 3 p.m., deputies said, and after hours of negotiation, entered the home and found Duda dead with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Sheriff's Office said Duda had been removed from his teaching position, but couldn't say when other than to say it was not recently.
