TAMPA — Four fireworks-related injuries, including one woman who was struck in the mouth, were reported on July 4, Tampa Fire Rescue said.
Firefighters were called to a home at 4105 W Fairview Heights at 1:25 a.m. when Matthew Lewandowski, 24, loaded a mortar into a fiberglass tube that erupted in his hands. The explosion blew off his thumb, Fire Rescue said, and he suffered several burns.
At 8:48 p.m., another injury was reported at 1913 E Ellicott St. when a firework struck a child's foot. About an hour later, at 5130 Palm Park Court, a 22-year-old woman injured her hand in a fireworks accident.
A fourth incident involved an 18-year-old woman who was hit in the mouth with fireworks at 314 E Gladys St. about 11 p.m.
