ST. PETERSBURG — Authorities shut down two blocks of Central Avenue and First Avenue S between 72nd and Park streets Wednesday because of a gas leak.
The leak, in a valve on a 6-inch natural gas line, was discovered at about 10:15 a.m.
Businesses in the area were evacuated, said St. Petersburg Fire Rescue Lt. Joel Granata. It was unclear how long it will take to fix the leak, he said.
Police said no cars would be allowed in the area until the leak was under control.
