Health officials issued a warning Saturday about the water off the Courtney Campbell Causeway beach: It might have high levels of potentially disease-causing bacteria.
The Pinellas County Health Department said a Thursday test of the salt water revealed a high level of enteric bacteria, which normally live in the intestinal tracts of humans and animals, and may cause disease, infections or rashes.
Health officials say this area should be considered a potential health risk to swimmers.
The presence of enteric bacteria is an indication of fecal pollution, which health officials say may come from storm water run-off, pets, wildlife and sewage.
The next water sampling at will be Jan. 9.
