PLANT CITY — County animal control officers on Monday seized 26 pit bull terriers, some of them severely wounded, that were being used in dog fighting matches, said Animal Services spokeswoman Marti Ryan.
The animals were being kept on short chains on property at 2020 Colson Road. Authorities received an anonymous tip over the weekend that there was dog fighting on the property and obtained a search warrant, Ryan said.
She said the investigation is continuing, and no one has been charged yet. The dogs have been transferred to the county animal shelter for medical care.
