Hillsborough deputies lead escort to Bushnell for Groveland airman killed in Iraq

TAMPA — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office will lead Friday morning an escort route starting at MacDill Air Force Base for a fallen hero.

Deputies said the escort route was pushed back to start at 10:45 a.m. for Airman 1st Class Christoffer P. Johnson, who was killed Feb. 17 in southwest Asia while supporting Operation New Dawn, the military's new name for the Iraq war.

Johnson's family lives in Groveland, Fla. They will be led from Tampa to a funeral home in Bushnell.

Drivers should expect traffic delays along the route, deputies said. After leaving MacDill, the route goes to Bayshore Boulevard, to the Platt Street Bridge, to Channelside Drive, north on Florida Avenue, to Scott Street, to Interstate 275, to Interstate 75 to Bushnell.
