TAMPA — A Hillsborough County Jail inmate died Saturday from pre-existing medical conditions, according to authorities.

Dwight Roach, 54, died in Tampa General Hospital, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said. Spokeswoman Debbie Carter declined to elaborate on the cause of death or what kind of care he received, citing privacy reasons.

The sheriff's office arrested Roach on May 7 for aggravated assault. He was initially booked into the Orient Road Jail, then transferred to the location on Falkenburg Road, Carter said. He received care while he was in jail and was taken to the hospital Friday when his condition worsened.
