TAMPA — A Hillsborough County sheriff's corporal is being held without bail after he hit his girlfriend while they were riding in a car together, deputies say.
Cpl. Vivino Millan, 43, was taken to Orient Road Jail after 10 p.m. Wednesday, when the woman called the Sheriff's Office to report that Millan hit her in the mouth with the back of his hand.
Deputies called him on his cell phone and then drove to a parking lot on Sudbury Court in Westchase to meet him, sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway said. Millan was standing next to his sheriff's car when deputies took him into custody on the misdemeanor charge.
Hired in December 1991, Millan is assigned to the recruitment and screening section. He is on paid administrative leave during an internal investigation, Callaway said.
