Hit-and-run fatality in Apollo Beach leads to arrest

APOLLO BEACH — The Florida Highway Patrol was investigating a hit-and-run crash that left one person dead Friday morning.

At about 7 a.m., an SUV driven by Christopher Allen Davis, 33, of Ruskin, collided with a Lexus sedan on U.S. 41 at Miller Mac Road in Apollo Beach, FHP reported.

A male passenger in Davis' vehicle died at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

The woman driving the Lexus was seriously injured and taken to Brandon Regional Hospital, FHP said.

Davis fled the scene by foot but was apprehended by deputies about 40 minutes later, according to FHP. He was also injured and taken to the hospital.

No other details were immediately available.
