Holiday bar owner charged with embezzling sales tax

HOLIDAY — The owner of LNT's Kickstand Saloon was arrested last week after, authorities say, she embezzled thousands of dollars of sales taxes.

Nina Marie Novak, 54, collected sales tax from customers but did not send it to the state during various times between September 2012 through November 2013, according to a news release from the Florida Department of Revenue.

The release says she amassed $9,800 in stolen sales tax at the bar, 2419 Grand Boulevard.

She was arrested Aug. 28 by Pasco Sheriff's deputies on a warrant for grand theft of state funds.

Novak, of 2109 Arcadia Road, was taken to the Land O'Lakes jail where she was released an hour later on $10,000 bail.
