Injured man airlifted from cruise ship

Editor's note: Correction notice appended below.

ST. PETERSBURG — A 46-year-old Valrico man was evacuated from a cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter Saturday night, authorities said.

The man, Scott Andrew Spicer, was taken to Tampa General Hospital for undisclosed injuries suffered aboard a Holland America cruise ship, the Coast Guard said.

A Coast Guard rescue helicopter arrived about 8 p.m. at the ship, 120 miles southwest of St. Petersburg.

Correction: Earlier versions of this story appearing in print and online gave an incorrect name for Scott Andrew Spicer and incorrectly described the circumstances of his injury and the airlift.
