ST. PETERSBURG — A 41-year-old man believed to be on his way home from work just after midnight on Saturday morning was attacked and killed near All Children's Hospital, police said.

Scott R. Franklin was driving near Sixth Avenue S and Fifth Street S when he was killed about 12:25 a.m. Video surveillance appears to show his vehicle being followed by what police said were "at least" two or three other vehicles.

The vehicles came to a stop just short of the intersection, and witnesses said they heard gunshots and saw someone leaning out of the passenger side of the one of the vehicles that had been following Franklin's. The suspect vehicles then fled north on Sixth Street S.

Anyone with information is asked to call St. Petersburg police at (727) 893-7780.
