Man rescued from sinking boat in gulf off Belleair

BELLEAIR — One man was rescued from a sinking boat in the Gulf of Mexico Thursday afternoon, officials with the United States Coast Guard said.

The man summoned the Coast Guard when his boat began to take on water about three miles offshore.

Just before the man abandoned the boat, he was picked up by a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office marine unit vessel. There were no reports of injuries.

The boat sank, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Sondra-Kay Kneen.
