Man's body found in state forest in Hernando County

RIDGE MANOR — The body of a man was found Friday on a walking trail deep within the Croom Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest, officials said.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office and park officials were investigating the death and searching the nearby campgrounds. As of Friday afternoon, the body had not been identified and a cause of the death had not been determined.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Lt. Cinda Moore said authorities weren't sure whether the death was a homicide or a suicide.

Officials blocked off access to the trail while they worked the case. A park ranger reportedly discovered the body on Trail 7 in the forest at around 3:30 p.m.
