Motorcyclist dies after Dunedin crash

DUNEDIN — Deputies are investigating a Sunday morning crash that killed a motorcyclist.

Just before 10 a.m., deputies say 59-year-old Oldsmar resident Clarvel Romano was driving a 2010 Nissan Infinity south on Bayshore Boulevard. Turning left near San Salvador Drive, Romano's vehicle collided with a 1982 Honda motorcycle driven by Peter Gikas.

The motorcycle struck the driver's side bumper, according to deputies. Gikas, 54, of Clearwater was not wearing a helmet. He was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center, where authorities said he died.

Romano was not treated for injuries. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is investigating and no charges have been filed.
