Motorcyclist dies in crash after hitting concrete median in Tampa

TAMPA — A 28-year-old motorcyclist died Thursday night after crashing into a concrete median on Causeway Boulevard and being thrown from the bike, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Charles Robert Dotterer was riding west on Causeway, just east of 50th Street, at about 7:30 p.m., according to an FHP report.

He veered from the inside lane to the left turn lane for an unknown reason. He then hit the brakes, leaving more than 15 feet of skid marks, before striking a raised concrete median, according to the FHP.

The motorcycle, a 2004 Harley-Davidson Sportster, flipped in the center grass median and Dotterer was thrown. He wasn't wearing a helmet.

He died at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
