TAMPA — A Pasco County motorcyclist was killed on his 26th birthday early Wednesday morning after Tampa police said he drove into a pick-up truck that cut him off on N Dale Mabry Highway.

The incident took place at 12:34 a.m. The motorcyclist, Daniel Nau, who turned 26 on Wednesday, was driving south on N Dale Mabry Highway when police said a 1997 Chevrolet pick-up truck turned left in front of him at the Cypress Street intersection.

Nau's motorcycle then struck the pick-up, police said. Nau, of Wesley Chapel, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pickup, Jermaine Buie, 37, of 4219 W Nassau St., "exhibited signs of impairment," police said. He was arrested on a charge of DUI manslaughter. Officers said they took a sample of Buie's blood and sent it to a state lab for testing, to determine his blood-alcohol level.

The crash closed the intersection for several hours overnight, but was reopened by about 4 a.m.
