ST. PETERSBURG — Nearly 3,000 Progress Energy customers in St. Petersburg were without power Wednesday night as the company worked to repair a set of downed wires.
The power outage happened just before 8:30 p.m. in the area of Fourth Street and 22nd Avenue N. Someone in the area reported a set of wires down at about the same time, officials said.
Progress Energy reported 2,864 customers without power at 9 p.m. Power was restored to most customers by 10:30 p.m.
It was unclear what brought the wires down.
