NEW PORT RICHEY — A 49-year-old New Port Richey pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run driver early Wednesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Deborah Wesson Bobek was struck just after 5 a.m. as walked north on Grand Boulevard near Sunshine Park Drive.
Bobek was walking on the eastern edge of the road when a northbound vehicle hit her from behind. She was knocked into the center of the road, where she died.
No description of the vehicle was available.
There are no streetlights in the area, but the road gets ambient lighting from nearby businesses, troopers said.
Troopers ask anyone with information about the crash to call Cpl. Covert at (813) 631-4020.
Grand Boulevard was closed early Wednesday from Trouble Creek to Sunshine Park Drive. No other information was immediately available.
