NEW PORT RICHEY — The Florida Forest Service and New Port Richey Fire Rescue plan to conduct a 25-acre controlled burn in the James E. Grey Preserve on Wednesday, weather permitting. The burn is a part of a Wildfire Mitigation Project targeting wildland fuels that present a potential wildfire threat in close proximity to bordering communities. The burn areas will be in New Port Richey, south of Plathe Road and west of Rowan Road. Winds are forecast to carry the smoke to the south. Residents within the region bordering the burn location may consider keeping their windows closed if they smell smoke. For information on the planned burn, call senior forester Dave Fogler at (352) 523-5101, or call New Port Richey Fire Rescue at (727) 853-1032.
