One critical after crash in Zephyrhills

ZEPHYRHILLS — A Thursday crash in Pasco County has left a 67-year-old woman in critical condition.

Around 7 p.m., 16-year-old Jonathan Edward Kubiak was driving west on Pretty Pond Road as Sharon Kleist Zacharias was traveling east, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Kubiak swerved left in his 2001 Volkswagon Jetta, veering into the eastbound lanes, and smashed into the front of Zacharias's 1987 Mitsubishi pickup, troopers said.

Kubiak and Zacharias, both of Zephyrhills, were taken to area hospitals. Kubiak to Florida Hospital with minor injuries and Zacharias to St. Joseph's Hospital by helicopter for critical injuries.

Troopers said Kubiak, who has a learner's permit but was driving alone, was cited for failure to stay in his designated lane and violation of his permit.
