TAMPA — A man died Sunday morning after his vehicle veered off Interstate 75, authorities said.

Traveling south, the white 1995 Chevrolet van left the highway and went into the right shoulder, said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Steve Gaskins. The front of the vehicle struck a tree, and the van slid into a ditch.

The crash occurred just before 8 a.m. around State Road 674 near Ruskin, Gaskins said.

The van's driver, 55-year-old Stanley Batchelor Murphrey of Parrish, died at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt, Gaskins said.

The patrol has not yet determined what caused the van to leave the highway.
