Part of I-75 near Brandon reopens

BRANDON — Part of Interstate 75 reopened Tuesday after closing for several hours because of a wildfire that started as a controlled burn, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Northbound and southbound lanes were closed about 4 a.m. from Moccasin Wallow Road to College Avenue in Sun City. Those roads reopened shortly after 8 a.m.

Firefighters said the controlled burn jumped out of the planned area and burned 125 acres. The fire eventually was contained but brought heavy smoke to the Sun City Center area.
