Pasco deputies: shots miss target but almost hit children

Times staff

DADE CITY — Two children were almost hit by errant gunshots in what deputies called an attempted murder Monday morning.

Quantius Thomas, 20, told deputies he wasn't trying to hit the children, rather a man he was fighting, according to an arrest report from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.

While Thomas and the other man fought outside an apartment at 37470 Acorn Loop, he drew his gun and fired twice, the report said. Both shots missed, but blasted through the apartment's front door.

The shots narrowly missed an infant and child inside, the report said. Neither were injured.

Deputies arrested Thomas about 5:45 p.m. Monday, charging him with attempted murder. He was being held in the Land O' Lakes jail Tuesday without bail.
