Pedestrian from Iowa dies in Tampa crash

TAMPA — A 56-year-old pedestrian who was critically injured Wednesday has died, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Richard Earl Oliver of Iowa was pronounced dead about 5:45 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Troopers said Carol Ann Grubbs, 59, was driving through a painted area separating northbound and southbound lanes of Florida Avenue near Bearss Avenue and tried turn left. Oliver, who was crossing the northbound lanes of Florida Avenue outside of a crosswalk, apparently didn't see Grubbs' car and was struck.

Grubbs was uninjured. She faces a charge of crossing the painted area of the street.
