Pedestrian hit, injured by minivan in St. Pete Beach

ST. PETE BEACH — A 66-year-old Kentucky woman was badly injured Tuesday afternoon after a minivan driven by a man from Indiana swerved and hit her, police said.

Sandra Sullivan was in critical but stable condition Wednesday at Bayfront Medical Center, said Robert Micklitsch, a traffic homicide investigator with St. Pete Beach police.

The crash happened at 4950 Gulf Blvd. Police responded about 2:48 p.m.

Police said Sullivan was walking south at a driveway when a minivan driven by 81-year-old Harry Voorhis Jr. of Indiana swerved and hit her.

The right front corner of his van struck her from behind and knocked her into the air, and she landed face first on the driveway, Micklitsch said.

No charges were filed, but an investigation was continuing, Micklitsch said.

"He will be charged with something, I just can't determine the severity," Micklitsch said.
